Fractiona Odds
The fractional format uses a fraction to represent the odds of an outcome occurring, like 4/1 or 3/2. The odds of 4/1 are pronounced four to one. With the fractional odds, the first number represents the amount of money you will get if you made a bet worth the second number and won.
For example, if you bet $1 with fractional odds of 4/1, you will get $4 in return for winning the bet. If you bet $5, you will get $20 in return (5x4). Since this is a more than double return, odds of 4/1 also tell you that the chances of the outcome occurring are low.
Decimal Odds
Another simple odd format is the Decimal format. With the decimal format, odds have a number with a decimal, like 1.5 or 2.5. Decimal odds represent the exact multiple you will get in return if you win, which in the case of odds of 1.5 is 1.5 times your betting amount.
So, if you bet $100 on an outcome with odds of 1.5, you will get a $150 total return. Since this is less than double the return, odds of 1.5 also tell you that the chances of the outcome occurring are high.
American Odds
Finally, we have the American Odds. They use a number and either a negative or a positive sign to represent the odds. Odds of -120 tell you that you will need to bet $120 to win $100, and odds of +120 tell you that you will get $120 if you bet $100.
